About Eastover

Eastover got its start in 1927 by Charlotte's E.C. Griffith Company and was envisioned as a competitor to Myers Park, deemed at the time "The finest unified suburban development south of Baltimore." From its founding to the present day, Easter has been the home of many of the financiers, lawyers, and other leaders who have directed the growth of Charlotte. This neighborhood consists almost entirely of large single-family residences, some 550 in number. E.C. Griffith had quite a name for himself by 1927 as a real estate developer, however, Eastover was outside of his skill set. He had previously developed Dartmouth Place, Wesley Heights and Rosemont (a middle-class section of current-day Elizabeth). To draw attention to the project, Griffith felt he would have to offer a higher level of neighborhood planning than those previously mentioned, thus he hired Earle Sumner Draper who had worked as John Nolan's filed supervisor in Myers Park. Draper brought his grand curvatures over from Myers Park, especially seen on Cherokee and Colville roads echoing that of Queens Road West. Another similar feature to Myers Park and to discourage through traffic, Draper designed only two access points; the first via Laurel and the second Randolph Road.
